Steampunk at the Library

So the children...in spite of our bath remodel...convinced me they could go to the library today to make Steampunk hats!  Since, there really was nothing they could to help with  the tile job (more on that in a different post!) and Amanda promised to drive the van VERY carefully...I let them go.

They just got back and here is the report from the children (young and not so young!):

We were so excited to get to the workshop that we arrived 30 minutes early!  The librarian told us to wait, so we went off to look at books that we could not check out because we forgot our library card!  We went back to the meeting room and the librarian was being interviewed by the local paper.  The librarian saw Amanda (who was already dressed in Steampunk-style) and mentioned that some in the community were very in to this type of genre as we can see here.  The interviewer did not notice her at first, so when he turned to see Amanda...he quickly had her sit down for an interview.  We are sure Amanda will be quoted in the article for the paper!  The journalist also took many pictures and even videoed us!

Then everyone arrived to start making the hats.  The base hats were passed out to the group...and then there were special accessories...such as goggles and a single monocle (Henry snatched this up in a heartbeat).  Amanda grabbed a large piece of red velvet material even though she did not know how she would use it.  We all made our hats with a little help from each other as needed.  It was a lot of fun!!!

We finished up and headed to the home improvement store for Momma.  We tried to find the tile she needed but no luck.  We also had a lot of strange looks from people.  I guess it was because we wore our hats into the store!

Then as we were driving around the loop in town...a nice driver and his passenger started to wave to us as they passed in their car.  We thought it was funny to see their expressions when they saw us all in our hats...then they zoomed passed us and were gone in a split second.  We are not sure if they zoomed away because they were scared or shocked.  LOL!

Steampunk art is not done...next week we are supposed to go back and make jewelry!
